James Elmore

James Elmore was the founding dean of ASU Architecture. He oversaw the program's growth from a few architectural drafting classes in the College of Engineering to its establishment as the College of Architecture in 1964. He served as dean until 1973 when he returned to teaching. Always active in the community, his strong connections gave the program a visible and influential role in the Phoenix area. He was the first to conceive of "doing something with the river" and a tireless advocate for the Rio Salado Project. He was one of the founders of Arizona Forward.
