Robert McConnell

Bob McConnell's historic contribution to the architecture program was taking the challenge from Jim Elmore to "do something with the river." In response, he led his 1966 class of fifth-year students in studying and developing plans to restore the Salt River to a verdant and productive waterway. After leaving ASU, he spent two years at the University of Kansas and then became department head of the College of Art and Architecture at the University of Idaho. He returned to Arizona in 1971 as dean of the University of Arizona's College of Architecture for eight years and then was a professor there until his retirement in 1995.
