With a background in private industry at General Motors and faculty experience at The Ohio State University, Stan Mumma came to ASU to support the innovative research of John Yellott in solar and alternative energy. After building his own solar hot water heater, he conceived and initiated a local workshop for homeowners with the aid of a 1978 U.S. Department of Energy grant. These workshops were expanded nationally in 1980 and continued for several years. He left ASU in 1984 for Pennsylvania State University where he stayed until his retirement in 2007.
